Woman Goes To Planned Parenthood At Age Of 21, Shares Her Horrific Experience In Viral Facebook Post

Planned Parenthood has long become associated with one defining and incredibly divisive issue: abortion. Yes, the reproductive healthcare organization does offer this service in certain clinics. However, 40% of its funding from the government, helping to provide care for hundreds of thousands of people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford it. They offer services such as birth control; emergency contraception; clinical breast examinations; cervical cancer screening; pregnancy testing and pregnancy options counseling; prenatal care; testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections; sex education; vasectomies and LGBT services. The core aim of Planned Parenthood is the prevention of sexual diseases and unwanted pregnancies – fewer unwanted babies equals fewer abortions. Makes sense right? Not to some, including, it seems, the current administration. So obsessed have people become with the abortion issue, the …

Who Is Michelle Carter And Why Is Everyone Talking About Her? Betches

If everyone you know has been uttering the phrase, “I love you, now die” this week, it’s not because they want to murder you (I hope). It’s because HBO released a two-part documentary on the death of Conrad Roy III called I Love You, Now Die: The Commonwealth vs. Michelle Carter. Or you might know it as the Michelle Carter documentary. Whatever you know it as, the documentary covers what became known as the “texting suicide case” that garnered national media attention back in 2014. Damn, was it really that long ago? Time flies when all you do is watch true crime documentaries. As I mentioned, the documentary is two parts, and before you ask (because literally everyone has been asking me), …

Preterm Birth Affects Personality And The Quest To Find Love As Adults

If someone says coming too early can hinder your love life, they’re probably not thinking of being born before the due date. Yet an enormous meta-study has found preterm babies are less likely to form romantic partnerships as adults and also have fewer children of their own. These effects aren’t inevitable, but currently almost nothing is being done to improve social outcomes for those born early. The health consequences of very early birth are well known, but effects on personality get less attention. People born before 37 weeks are more likely to be shy and withdrawn, which led Dr Marina Mendonça of the University of Warwick to explore how this influences their romantic lives. In JAMA Network Open, Mendonça reports that those born more than …

Grasshoppers And Silkworms Have Similar Antioxidant Levels To Orange Juice

The future of breakfast, lunch, and dinner – and everything in between – may not look like the dishes of today. Instead, to keep a lower environmental footprint in a changing world, we may turn to other foods like grasshoppers, silkworms, and crickets (oh my!) Insects have been on the menu for some time now, but this new research specifically focused on calculating the antioxidant value of commercially available insects. To do this, they grabbed a handful of marketplace delights, including black scorpions, Thai zebra tarantulas, giant water bugs, African caterpillars, and black ants.   The team from the University of Teramo in Italy then had the task of removing any wings, paws, or stingers from the creatures and grinding them up …

Gay and trans soldiers say they were abused in South Korean military

Seoul (CNN)After months of watching the abuse, Park felt he had to act. According to Park, he and the original victim were forced to have sex with each other while other soldiers taunted them. They were then further ostracized within the unit and by their superiors for being “perverted.” The abuse continued. Eventually, they attempted to kill themselves. So did two other soldiers suffering similar bullying. “We went to the boiler room to cut ourselves and banged our heads against the wall,” Park said. “All four of us were eventually taken to a psychiatric hospital.” Park is one of dozens of South Korean soldiers who spoke anonymously to human rights NGO Amnesty International alleging abuse and discrimination against LGBT soldiers …

Scientists Believe Snail-Slug Hybrid Is Spreading Potentially Fatal Brain Parasite In Hawaii

A half-snail, half-slug creature is likely responsible for the spread of a brain-invading parasite in Hawaii, according to a study in the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. This “semi-slug” is capable of carrying a high concentration of rat lungworm parasites, a small roundworm that affects the brain and spinal cord to produce meningitis-like symptoms. Already this year, five cases of the infection have been reported in both visitors and residents of the state, half that of 2018’s cases. But to understand how people come into contact with the parasite, we first need to understand its lifecycle. The adult form of the parasitic nematode can only be found in rodents, but snails and slugs that eat rodent feces can …

The angry chef or the Michelin guide: which giant ego are you rooting for? | Dale Berning Sawa

The standoff between Marc Veyrat and the famous guide is about power and who has the last word, says food writer Dale Berning Sawa Marc Veyrat, the French weekly Le Point, saying: Hello, call me back please, its urgent. And when they did, he proceeded to relay, in great, indeed in operatic detail, quite how awful the fallout has been. He has been depressed, he has had dark thoughts. He hasnt been able to sleep or feed himself. He has cried as if his parents had passed away all over again. He has envisaged the very worst. The worst, of course, to his mind, had already happened. The Michelin, he said, would never be able to atone for this terrible …

Women with paying jobs see slower memory loss later in life, study says

(CNN)Having a paying job might shield women from memory loss decades later, according to a new study. The research is preliminary and has not yet been published in a peer-reviewed medical journal, but Rebecca Edelmayer, director of scientific engagement at the Alzheimer’s Association, said “it’s possible that work in mid-life may actually be protective.” “Roles for women in the workforce and family have really changed dramatically over the years,” she added, “so it’s important that we continue to study the relevance of those changes and how they could be impacting the risk for women related to Alzheimer’s disease.” The women facing a higher risk Mayeda’s team looked at more than 6,000 women born between 1935 and 1956 and collected their …

Influencers Are Apparently Taking Pics At A Toxic Lake Betches

Another day, another instance of Instagram influencers being stupid. God, they just never stop, do they? Not that I’m complaining, because it gives me endless article fodder. Carry on, you naive fools! The most entertaining thing about influencers (and wannabe influencers) is the lengths they will go to in order to capture a photo. Legitimately, last weekend, my friends and I watched as this girl stood in the middle of a house party, fake laughing to herself as if she were in the middle of an actual photoshoot, while her friend stood there with an iPhone, snapping pics for Instagram. If you just did that, not in front of a camera, you would look insane. A lot of the time, …

Medicare for All is a political loser

(CNN)The debate among the Democratic presidential candidates about universal health coverage calls to mind a couple of political truths. First, most things that sound too good to be true are, in fact, not true. Second, if you want to take away a public benefit, you’d better have a good replacement for it first. In similar polls, when voters are presented with the full details of the Sanders and Warren plans, support falls dramatically. A poll done by David Binder for Third Way found a dramatic drop when factoring in the cost, the increase in payroll tax to pay for it, and the potential for the GOP-controlled Congress to have ultimate control of health care decisions including reproductive rights. That last …

Common Cold Virus Targets And Kills Bladder Cancer

After millennia of causing mild misery, the common cold virus is giving something back to humanity. A pioneering study has shown that a strain of the common cold virus can infect and kill bladder cancer cells.  Reported in the journal Clinical Cancer Research, scientists at the University of Surrey in the UK have treated 15 people with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer using a live strain of coxsackievirus, or CVA21, which typically causes mild flu-like symptoms. They were given an infusion of the bug through a catheter before undergoing surgery to remove and examine the tumors.  During surgery, one week after infusion, there was evidence that the virus had targeted and killed cancer cells in the bladder while leaving all other cells …

Politics, policy and procedure of Muellers upcoming Congressional testimony

Lawmakers wrestle constantly about policy. This is the right approach for defense. No, this is the right policy for defense. No, you’re both wrong. Pols may be at odds over how to handle issues at the border, immigration, health care or even the debt ceiling. Their disposition may be right or flawed. But it doesn’t matter. Lawmakers don’t have to be right on the policies they support or reject. Original Article : HERE ;
